E39 kojamehed seaded

Postitus Postitas ringo34 »

Tere

Liitun aruteluga. Kui lükkan kangi nõks üle, hakkab "sensor" tööle ehk kojamehed pühivad vastavalt vajadusele. Aga sellest rullikust ma aru ei saa. Mulle tundub, et midagi ei muutu.

Wiper/washer system

Wiper switch

All wipe/wash functions can be switched on with the wiper switch as of terminal R (ignition lock in position 1).

The wiper switch can be switched to intermittent wipe, stage 1 and stage 2. These settings are coded by means of two lines leading to the general module. They are each switched to ground

On vehicles equipped with the special option automatic interval control (AIC) (as of March 1996), in the "intermittent" switch position, the intermittent wipe function is controlled by a rain sensor (refer to functional description for automatic interval control).

Intermittent mode

A knurled wheel with a potentiometer is integrated in the wiper switch. This makes it possible to set four different intervals. These times are also controlled according to road speed. The faster the vehicle is driven, the shorter the interval.

On vehicles equipped with automatic interval control (AIC) (as of March 1996), the sensitivity of the rain sensor can be influenced with the thumbwheel.

Wiper motor

The wiper motor is configured for two different wiper speeds. The load is switched via two external relays.

The end position (park position) of the wiper motor is recognized by means of a reset contact integrated in the motor. This contact switches ground to the general module when the motor has reached its end position.

The reset contact is also used for monitoring the wiper motor. If the contact signal is not received for 16 seconds with the wiper motor switched on (e.g. dry running), the wiper motor is switched off in order to protect it from overloading.

The wiper is not switched on again before it has been switched off and a lock-out time of 3 minutes has elapsed.

The wiper speed is set at the wiper switch. If automatic interval control is not installed, the wiper speed will be additionally controlled according to the road speed. The following settings apply:

Pilt

When stage 2 is switched on, stage 1 cuts in at > 210 km/h to prevent the wiper arm from lifting.

On vehicles with the optional extra automatic interval control (AIC) (as of March 1996), the windshield wipers are not controlled according to road speed.

Windshield intensive wash

The windshield intensive wash function is switched on with the wiper switch and takes place automatically.

Initially, a pump sprays wash fluid on to the windshield. The windshield wipers are switched on after a time delay. The wash pump is then switched on and the intensive wash fluid rinsed off. The wipers are switched on again for a short time in order to wipe the windshield dry.

The intensive wash pump is driven by means of an external dual relay module which also switches the pump for the headlight wash function.

Headlight washer

The headlight wash function is triggered every fifth time wash or intensive wash is activated when the headlight or parking lights are switched on. The headlights are sprayed twice.

The headlight wash function is blocked for 3 minutes at the end of a wash cycle.

Switching off terminal R resets the repeat lock-out and the counter for wash operations. When terminal R is switched on again with the lights on, the headlight wash function can be activated immediately.

The headlight wash pump is driven by means of an external dual relay module which also switches the pump for the intensive wash function.

Automatic Interval Control (AIC)

Automatic Interval Control (AIC)

Function

With the aid of a rain sensor, the automatic interval control (AIC) system senses water or dirt on the windshield and activates the windshield wipers accordingly.

The AIC consists of an optical element bonded on the windshield, to which an electronic evaluator is connected.

The system is active as of ignition lock position 1. The wiper/washer switch must be set to the first stage (intermittent wipe setting).

The wiper motor is activated by the general module of ZKE. The electronic evaluator sends the instruction to activate the wiper motor via the K-bus to the general module.

Optical element

The optical element is adhered to the windshield behind the rear-view mirror. It consists of a glass body (prism) which routes the beams emitted by infrared diodes at a defined angle to the windshield. The light beams reflected by the windshield are routed by the optical element to the infrared receivers.

The optical element is heated by a heating element to ensure condensation cannot form on it.

The optical element is bonded together with the windshield in a special process such as to guarantee the physical properties of the system. This bonding process cannot be carried out in the workshop. Therefore when replacing the windshield, a special windshield with the optical element already bonded to it must be used.

Electronic evaluator

The electronic evaluator is connected to the optical element by means of a catch mechanism.

It contains the electronic components as well as the infrared diodes and infrared receivers.

The instruction to activate the wiper motor is given via the K-bus interface.

Functional principle

Water on the windshield is detected on the basis of the reflection of infrared beams.

Pilt

When the windshield is dry, all infrared beams which are emitted by the infrared diodes "S" and which hit the windshield at a defined angle are reflected in full by the windshield and therefore reach the infrared receivers "E" also in full.

Pilt

A proportion of these beams is deflected by a drop of water on the windshield (in the area of the infrared diodes). These beams no longer reach the infrared receivers "E".

In this way, the extent to which the shield is wet (or dirty) is determined dependent on the light intensity of the infrared beams and, if necessary, an instruction is sent via the K-bus to the general module of the ZKE III to activate the wiper motor.

Operation

To switch on the automatic interval control, the wiper/washer switch must be moved up to the first stage (intermittent wipe) and the ignition lock must be switched to position 1 or 2.

The automatic interval control system then controls the wipe intervals. If the windshield is constantly wet (steady rain) the system activates continuous wiping in stage 1.

The wiper stage 2 can still only be set by way of the wiper switch (third stage).

Automatic interval control remains switched off if terminal R is switched off and on when the wiper switch is set to intermittent wipe. It is not activated before intermittent wipe mode is switched off and on.

The sensitivity of the rain sensor can be varied by means of the knurled wheel on the wiper/washer switch.

Note

There is no driving speed-dependent control of the wiper stages (reset of wiper stages when vehicle is stationary). In addition, the automatic fold-back function of the wiper motor has also been omitted on the E38 series (see functional description for windshield wipers).

Operating conditions

The following conditions are necessary to ensure trouble-free operation of the rain sensor:
•The windshield must not be damaged (stone chips, scratches) or must not be heavily soiled (finger marks, streaks, wax film) in the area of the rain sensor.

•The wiper blades must wipe the windshield dry without streaks.

To ensure trouble-free operation, the windshield should be cleaned regularly with a suitable wax-removing cleaning agent. The wiper blades should be replaced regularly.

Initialization

The reflection characteristics of the windshield depend on a large number of factors. In addition these characteristics also change as the windshield ages.

During the initial wipe cycles, a new electronic evaluator determines the degree of reflection of the windshield and stores this data in its non-volatile memory. From this point on, this data is constantly adapted to the windshield which is subject to a certain degree of aging over the course of time.

The stored adaptation values can be deleted with the diagnostic program (service functions). Renewed adaptation (initialization) to the windshield can then be carried out.

The initialization procedure is described in the program sequence.

Initialization is necessary:
•After replacing the windshield

•When a used electronic evaluator is installed in a

Rain / driving light sensor

The rain-driving light sensor has integrated sensors that sense the wetness on the windshield glass and the ambient light.

Rain sensor

The rain sensor is an optical system. It consists of an optical element bonded on the windshield and an electronic element. The electronic evaluation unit and 4 optical transmitter and receiver diodes are integrated in the electronic element.

Function

The rain sensor is activated when the wiper switch is moved to the first stop position.

When the rain sensor is activated, visual feedback is given to the driver in that one wiping cycle is executed first. Then, the transmitter diodes emit an infrared light which is guided across the optical element to the windshield. If the windshield is completely dry and clean, the infrared light is fully reflected to the receiver diodes.

If there is water or dirt in the area of the optical element on the windshield, full reflection of the infrared light is no longer possible. Part of the light penetrates the windshield so that only part of the light arrives at the receiver diodes. The electronic circuitry detects how much water is on the windshield on the basis of the amount of light that is being blocked out and send a signal to that effect via the K bus. The ZKE basic module then performs a wipe cycle. In the case of very heavy rain, the intermittent operation goes into stage 1 or stage 2 of the continuous wiping mode.

A heating element integrated in the rain sensor prevents misting of the optical element or the diodes.

The sensitivity of the rain sensor can be varied in 4 sensitivity stages by means of the knurled wheel on the wiper/washer switch. Each time the adjuster wheel is moved in the ”Increase sensitivity” direction (upwards), a wipe cycle is carried out.

When the vehicle is at a standstill, there is an automatic reduction of the sensitivity so that the wiper usually runs in intermittent mode.

If the rain sensor fails, the wiper runs at a fixed time interval.

For safety reasons, the rain sensor is switched off when terminal R is switched off.

Requirements for faultless operation of the rain sensor are:
•No wax smear on the windshield

•Wiper blades OK

•Windshield glass free of faults in the area of the rain sensor

•Optical element bonded free of bubbles with the windshield glass

Initialization

Due to the optical process, the rain sensor has to be adapted to the windshield. This adaptation takes place at initialization.

Requirement for faultless initialization is that the windshield glass is dry, clean and free of defects in the area of the rain sensor.

The initialization is performed using the service function ”Initialize rain sensor” in the BMW diagnosis system. In the service function, the adaptation values in the rain sensor are deleted. This is followed by adjustment of the sensor system to the windshield based on the following sequence:
•Switching off the rain sensor

•Switch off terminal 15 and terminal R

•Switch on terminal R and terminal 15 and wait 10 seconds

In the 10 seconds waiting period, the new adaptation values are determined and stored.

Initialization of the rain sensor is necessary:
•After replacing the windshield

•Fitting a used rain-driving light sensor
Note: a used sensor must be coded beforehand!

Driving light sensor

The driving light sensor consists of two photodiodes and an electronic evaluation unit. The photodiodes are arranged in such a way that both light striking the sensor from the front and light striking the sensor from above (ambient light) are sensed.

If there is a change in the light conditions, a signal is sent across the K bus. If the automatic headlights system is active, the light control center switches the headlights on or off.

The light sensing is active as of terminal R, independent of whether the automatic driving light system is switched on or off.

Adjustment of the driving light sensor on the windshield is by means of coding. This is why a used sensor must be recoded on installation!
